Yoshida, Hiroshi (1876 - 1950), "The Jungfrau (Trial State)"
|Title||The Jungfrau (Trial State)|
|Medium||Original Japanese Woodblock Print|
|Publisher||The Artist - Privately Published|
|Reference No||Abe #15|
|Size||11 x 15 -1/2 "|

Notes: Brush signed (early signature) and sealed by the artist. This early Yoshida brush signature was normally limited to his original paintings and proofs. Yoshida notes that 8 blocks and 22 impressions were used for the standard edition. This extremely early state produces an almost painterly effect to this marvelous mountain scene.
As noted in Abe, pg. 42: "For The Jungfrau and The Wetterhorn, Yoshida attempted many trial printings with the same blocks used for (both) prints Abe #15 and Abe #16. These two prints have three variant impressions in different colors".
Provenance: The Yoshida Family Collection.
