Notes: Habits of a geisha of the Nakamachi district of Fukagawa in the Tempō era. Battling a snowstorm, this stylish young courtesan is on her way to a geisha house in the eastern part of Edo. An unusual printing technique called itabokashi (block gradation), in which the edge of the printing area of the block is bevelled, to show how the snow has blown off along the ribs of the umbrella.
