The one-hundred meter high Kegon falls is part of the Nikko National Park and is located near Lake Chuzenji. The brilliant autumnal foliage attracts a large number of tourists, no doubt a reason for Hasui's depiction of the falls at this time of the year.
In the late 1920s, the Bijutsusha Publishing Co. released the series titled, Ukiyo-e monyo shu (Collection of Ukiyo-e Designs), which contained eight landscape prints by Kawase Hasui (Hotei #170-77). According to Narazaki, this set was issued by the Bijutsusha firm in Yotsuya, Tokyo, not to be confused with the Kansai Bijutsusha in Osaka.
