Notes: North of Asakusa, where the Sumida River bends to the north-east, lies Massaki, famous for its Inari Shrine. This is probably a view from one of the numerous teahouses and restaurants there. On the far side of the river is the village of Sekiya beside the Uchikawa River, which flows into the Sumida; the gate of the Suijin Shrine can be seen on the right. The section of round window through which the landscape is seen gives the composition a bold cast; it is almost as if the viewer is a visitor at the restaurant.
An interesting side note: The plum blossom buds outside show that it is spring. A flowering magnolia can be seen in a basket on the inside wall of the restaurant.
