Notes: One of the best extant examples. A superb overall impression of an early state, with the series seal in the left margin. Removed from the original S. Watanabe studio folder; never framed or displayed. Toledo Museum catalog states, "Edition, 300 impressions". One of Hasui's masterpieces in depicting a nocturne or rain scene.
Narazaki observes, 'A nocturnal rain...Hasui depicts the various spa inns on either side of the river and their reflections on the water...Like [Utagawa] Hiroshige, Hasui changes the view to a nocturne or rain scene, as if to adapt his own aesthetic sense or scenery, be it fine weather or daytime'." - Hotei Vol. 1; pg. 70
