NOTES:
Notes: Signed by the artist. A rare subject matter for Baldridge. In Santa Fe, Baldridge began to seriously work in oils and watercolors. His paintings ranged over every possible theme, but chiefly portrayed New Mexican landscapes. In the thirty years between his retirement and his death, he hiked virtually the whole of northern New Mexico, sketching with charcoal or watercolors, and returning home to complete his work in oils. A large number of these later works are in the collection of the University of Wyoming, with the bulk of his estate left to the University of Chicago. Provenance: Alice Gunter of Carlsbad, New Mexico; acquired directly from the artist. During the entire span of her collecting, Ms. Gunter accumulated nearly 400 works by the artist.
