Bartlett, Charles (1860 – 1940), “Udaipur 1916 (Meditation)”

Notes: Signed in red-brown pencil, lower left margin. The light variant with the "CWB" monogram printed in black (Not illustrated in catalog). Nine impressions were needed just to achieve the dark blues in the water and as many as 36 to complete one woodblock print. The original blocks were destroyed in The Great Kanto earthquake of 1923. This print was the first design included in the 1916 portfolio of six color woodblock prints, "1st Series. India." - published in Tokyo. Udaipur, the "Venice of the East", is located in the state of Rajasthan (Western India).
