NOTES:
Notes: Near pristine example. Displays stronger colors then the example shown in Hotei. Watanabe diamond sticker on reverse. Series seal, left margin. A rare, pre-earthquake design in superb overall condition. Narazaki believes that 'Although this piece might seem quite ordinary, it is a masterpiece in its striking composition. One section of a corridor is viewed from the side, the light and dark of the pillars and eaves no doubt used with good result. The reflections of the trees and temple quiver on the surface of the lotus pond. Even the bright colour of the parched grass can be seen to heighten the overall effect'. - Hotei Vol. 1; pg. 61 The twenty-eight designs in the Souvenirs of travel, second series were issues in 1921. In this set Hasui has primarily portrayed places from Kansai region (Kyoto, Nara, Osaka and Kobe) or obscure locations along the Japan sea coast on the main island of Honshu, with some views from the smaller, more southerly island of Shikoku.
