Hasui, Kawase (1883 – 1957), “Moon over Kiyosumi Garden”

Notes: Removed from original Shima Art Co. folder and never displayed. "The stone lantern depicted here is in yukimi style, which is considered the most popular of all lantern styles. The name yukimi (literally, 'snow viewing') derives from the manner in which the snow is delicately deposited on the tops of the lanterns. The Kiyosumi garden is located in Tokyo." - Hotei Vol. 1 First edition prints from the late 1930's and early 1940's are seldom seen due to paper rationing during wartime, and the fact that Watanabe had a dwindling number of foreign customers. As a result, he printed fewer examples.
