Hasui, Kawase (1883 – 1957), “Rain in Maekawa, Soshu”

Notes: A near pristine example, displaying much deeper colors then the example in Hotei. "Printed in Japan", stamped on the reverse. Properly stored and never framed or displayed. Narazaki writes: 'A rainy night, a row of thatched-roofed houses line the street - a traditional woodblock print design and one of Hasui's favourites. The rain is created through the use of the baren pad'. Soshu (Sagami) province corresponds to present-day Kanagawa prefecture. - Hotei Vol. 1 pg. 85. Provenance: From a private East Coast collection. For the past 25 years the prints were properly stored away, with many removed from their original S. Watanabe folders.
