Hasui, Kawase (1883 – 1957), “Snowstorm at Kiba”

Notes: Removed from original Shima Art Co. folder; never framed or displayed. Original gallery label included. Stamped on reverse, "Made in Japan". As stated in the attached slip, "Blocks about 20; Edition 100." PROVENANCE: From the collection of the "Robert Lee Gallery" and carefully preserved in the original Shima Art folder. In 1940, Robert Muller purchased the inventory of the Shima Art Company in New York. Muller retained the manager, William Lee, and renamed the business, the Robert Lee Gallery. Shortly after Pearl Harbor, the joint venture was closed after just two years.
