Notes: Still tipped in the original "Robert Lee Gallery" mount. Stamped on the inner matte, "The Robert Lee Gallery Newtown. Conn."; "B740" in pencil. Stamped on the reverse, "Made in Japan". "Gofun" (powder made of crushed seashells) sprinkled to depict the effect of water splashing.

In 1940, Robert Muller purchased the inventory of the Shima Art Company in New York. Muller retained the manager, William Lee, and renamed the business, the Robert Lee Gallery. Shortly after Pearl Harbor, the joint venture was closed after just two years.
