Notes: The only still life of fruits Hasui completed in his oeuvre of over 600 works on paper. Designs created during the war are seldom seen due to paper rationing at that time, and the fact that Watanabe had a dwindling number of foreign customers. As a result, he printed fewer examples. Properly stored since original purchase from S. Watanabe print shop.
Narazaki writes that, 'Although Hasui rarely designed prints other then landscapes, he was adept in the depiction of still lifes, flowers and birds as well as portraits'. - Hotei Vol.1, pg. 115
Provenance: The collection was initially purchased directly from S. Watanabe print shop in the mid-1940's and has always been properly stored away in a single owner collection. The majority of the works showcase rarely seen MINT colors; several far exceeding numerous examples seen in prior collections.
