Hasui, Kawase (1883 – 1957), “In the Snow, Nakayama-shichiri Road, Hida”

Notes: An early state, exhibiting the Watanabe "B" Seal. Narazaki recounts that 'Hasui undertook an extensive trip lasting 102 days, travelling from the Koshu to the Kiso roads and then on to Hida Takayama [in Gifu prefecture]. The Nakayama-shichiri road appears early on in his sketches from his journey. ... The distant mountains are printed without contour lines, conveying a sense that they are being buried under the heavy snow'.
