Hasui, Kawase (1883 – 1957), “Isohara, Ibaraki-ken – Original Painting”

Notes: Signed Hasui with a red artist seal at the bottom left of the work. This picturesque original painting wonderfully depicts the pine-clad and grass-covered steep island at low tide. A seldom offered original work by the artist. Ibaraki Prefecture is the northeastern part of the Kantō region, stretching between Tochigi Prefecture and the Pacific Ocean and bounded on the north and south by Fukushima Prefecture and Chiba Prefecture. It also has a border on the southwest with Saitama Prefecture. The northernmost part of the prefecture is mountainous, but most of the prefecture is a flat plain with many lakes. This c.1950s painting exhibits a lifetime accumulation of artistic techniques, styles, and influences by one of modern Japan's most important and prolific artists.
