Hasui, Kawase (1883 – 1957), “Kansanomiya Shrine at Lake Tazawa”

Notes: Notice the exceptional bokashi shading in the mountains. Often found faded, this example displays vibrant colors throughout. Stored since original purchase from S. Watanabe print shop. Never framed or displayed. Narazaki noted that this work is, "An unusual scene of a lakeside shrine. In this work, the blizzard raging across the tranquil lake; the distant mountains; the dark snowy sky; the water, as if dyed a deep color; and the bare, snow-laden trees are all individual traits of Hasui". - Hotei Vol. 1, pg. 72 Provenance: The collection was initially purchased directly from S. Watanabe print shop in the mid-1940's and has always been properly stored away in a single collection. The majority of the works showcase rarely seen MINT colors; several far exceeding numerous examples seen in prior collections.
