Hasui, Kawase (1883 – 1957), “Morning in Beppu”

Notes: Described by Narazaki as 'The atramentous reflections of the boats and the pier on the water, a distant mountain - an elegant composition of an evening harbour view. The lines used in defining the boats are forceful and practised. Similarly, the dark undulating lines of the waves are fine; these types of waves are common in this region. For the past 30 years the prints were properly stored away; never being framed or displayed. The majority of the collection showcases rarely seen MINT colors; several far exceeding numerous examples seen in prior collections.
