Notes:

The scarce, first state with the four-fingerlike ends to the (hair) tresses and paper title label; both removed in the far more common regular/later editions. After some 20 first state impressions were produced, the color was adjusted, the bottom of the tresses hanging over the collarbone was blended away and the blue background surrounded a more delicately colored bust.

The South Seas prints were all created from sketches and paintings done between 1929-1936. Since many editions were lost during the World War II bombing of Tokyo, several designs are among the rarest and most desirable of all the artist's oeuvre.
