The artwork captures a quiet, poetic winter evening in the coastal town of Ishinomaki. It portrays a cluster of traditional wooden waterside buildings resting along a quiet shoreline, their roofs heavily blanketed under a thick layer of falling snow. Two small boats are seen moored at the edge of the water, enhancing the scene's profound stillness. Hasui masterfully utilizes a muted, softly shaded color palette dominated by winter blues, deep grays, and whites. The distant mountains are softly silhouetted against a heavy, leaden evening sky, creating an atmospheric depth that is characteristic of his finest landscape work.
Narazaki states: 'The tranquil evening snow has been skillfully designed; the painterly mood of the work is evinced in such elements as the two moored boats. The complex and sloped appearance of the snow-covered mountain in the upper right and the depiction of the dark distant mountain conveys a profoundly elegant mood.'
