Morning on Tsurugisan is a masterpiece that belongs to his celebrated series titled, Twelve Scenes in the Japan Alps. As an avid, lifelong mountaineer, Yoshida spent two months every summer hiking and sketching the rugged peaks of the Japanese Alps. He translated those field sketches into breathtaking woodblock prints during the winter months.

This specific artwork is highly regarded for its skillful depiction of early morning light, showcasing the dramatic transition from night to day over the peak of Mount Tsurugi. Yoshida effortlessly captures the rich, glowing red and pink hues of the sunrise contrasted against the blended gradations of deep purple and blue shadows stretching across the valley floor. Nestled in the dark foreground is a small campsite featuring a pitched tent and a glowing campfire. A thin wisp of white smoke gently rises into the crisp mountain air, establishing a serene, quiet human presence amid monumental nature.
