Notes: It has been suggested that this view is somewhere on the lower reaches of the Tone River, now known as the Edogawa River. The stubby lead weights around the edge of the net form a pleasing border to the intricate web within, a masterpiece of carving technique. Through the net is seen a blurred continuation of the distant shore. Strongly influenced by the Hiroshige's, 100 Views of Edo, Kobayashi Kiyochika (1847-1915) designed a series entitled, "One Hundred Views of Musashi (1884-5). The use of the fisherman's net in his "The River, Ayasegawa" clearly draws upon this Hiroshige design.
