NOTES:
Notes: Signed Hasui with artist's round seal Kawase. Series seal, left margin. Hand-numbered with red limited-edition seal on verso; #/300. The thirty-six prints of this series were produced from 1922 to 1926, with the majority of the designs from places in Kyushu. All prints are in the aiban format. The focus of this print is a tall stone lantern within the precincts of the Hachiman Shinto shrine, which is located near Hakata bay in Chikuzen province. The kami Hachiman was regarded as the God of war and was identified with the legendary emperor ลŒjin. Hachiman was also honored as the tutelary deity of the Minamoto family, who dedicated numerous shrines to him. - Hotei Vol. 1; pg. 67 A delightful pre-earthquake design.
