Hasui, Kawase (1883 – 1957), “Lake Hamana”

Notes: Displays strong colors throughout, with an addition of pink in the clouds; not shown in the Hotei impression. Narazaki explains that 'This image appears in a dark and light version. The waves on the lake's surface and the reflections on the water are rendered meticulously as if a miniature painting. The necessity of depicting every detail with such an approach results in some attractive features that would otherwise escape notice'. Lake Hamana is in Shizuoka prefecture near Maisaka, the 30th station on the Tokaido. Hotei Vol. 1, pg. 84
